Who are you, Martin Eden? he demanded of himself in the looking-
glass, that night when he got back to his room. He gazed at
himself long and curiously. Who are you? What are you? Where do
you belong?

Lock me in a room
A blanket with holes on an old bed
Rust stains on the windows
A swamp out there where hope is planted
A cracked mirror hangs on the wall
Reflection of my feelings
I cover my face with my hands
Soiled with ink stains

Failures that fill the pages
Consuming my soul with every single word
Deleting the sun with a dirty eraser
I seek fame with my literary sentences
This is not an eternal darkness
I will pull the sun from the sky to light my own path
In all my glory like a Siberian Wolf
I will smash all the locked doors and ascend

At the table of the nobles
I make eyes at ignobles
I watch corrupt souls collapse
The devil in the smiles
The smell of the sewer on the skin

My words have become spears
My speeches are a mighty dragon
A heart shattered for a beautiful love
An "Eden" with a broken thought machine
I'm on the starboard of a schooner now
My eyes are turned to the depth of the ocean
My name's Martin
An Eden turned into hell

Here was intellectual life, he thought, and here was beauty, warm and wonderful
as he had never dreamed it could be.
